Elizabethtown Mental Illness Disability Claims

Clinical depression and anxiety disorder go far beyond feelings of sadness or nervousness. They are real diseases that can have devastating consequences. Making them more dangerous is the possibility of suffering from multiple mood or affective disorders simultaneously. It is quite common for people with anxiety disorder to also suffer from depression. The effects of one or more of these disorders can severely impact a person's life.

If you or a family member experience debilitating symptoms from a mood or affective disorder, you may be eligible for Social Security Disability/Supplemental Security Income (SSD/SSI) benefits. To make your strongest case, work with an experienced lawyer. I have helped people with SSD/SSI claims for 35 years. I know what it takes to win benefits for depression or anxiety claims. Symptoms and Effects

The Social Security Administration (SSA) provides for mental disorders in its listing of impairments. However, to obtain SSD/SSI benefits for a mental disorder, you must provide medical evidence of your illness as well as evidence of its effect on your ability to work in a substantial gainful activity.

People who suffer from anxiety disorder may have symptoms, including panic attacks, irrational fear, compulsive or obsessive thoughts and behaviors, rapid heart/breathing rate and trouble concentrating. While anxiety disorder can be caused by a traumatic event or environmental issues, some people experience generalized, or "free-floating," anxiety that is not linked to any direct cause.

There are several types of clinical depression, including major depression and dysthymia. Major depression is episodic and is sometimes caused by a traumatic event, although it can also be caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. Dysthymia is a chronic form of depression that is not as well known as major depression, but can be debilitating.

Symptoms of both types of depression can include feelings of hopelessness, worthlessness, sadness, suicidal thoughts, exhaustion, loss of interest in activities, difficulty concentrating or making decisions, weight changes and trouble sleeping. Because people suffer multiple symptoms, and sometimes multiple disorders, the effect on their daily, work and social lives can be disabling.
