Reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome (RSD) is a nerve injury that can be difficult to diagnose and treat. RSD is a secondary effect resulting from a trauma such as an accident. It causes severe pain and other symptoms that can be disabling.
If you have RSD and are unable to work, you need an experienced attorney to help with your Social Security Disability/Supplemental Security Income (SSD/SSI) claim. I have handled numerous RSD claims and understand what information needs to be submitted with your application. I will help you through every stage of the process. When Pain Is Debilitating
RSD, also known as complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), is most often caused by trauma from a high-speed impact; although surgery can also cause RSD. Some common causes of RSD include vehicle accident injuries, slip-and-fall injuries, and workplace and construction accident injuries.
RSD usually affects the arms, hands, legs or feet. Symptoms are often severe and can include:
- Severe pain
- Burning sensation
- Swelling and joint discomfort
- Muscle spasms
- Sensitivity to touch
There is no cure for RSD, so treatment is focused on alleviating pain. Living with RSD is difficult and may result in depression and inability to perform normal day-to-day and work activities. If you or a family member suffer from RSD that is preventing you from working, you may be eligible for SSD/SSI benefits.
